3 Tips For Balancing Working ON Your Business With Working IN Your Business

May 16, 2023 By admin

When you have your own business, it can be a challenge to balance working within your business as an employee and working on your business as an entrepreneur.

However, if you want to have long-term success, it’s vital that you find a way to balance both of these roles in a way that allows you the freedom to grow and make your business more than it currently is.

To help you in doing this, here are three tips for balancing working on your business with working in your business.

Split Your Time Equally

When you’re first starting out with your business and have all of these responsibilities solely on yourself, it’s crucial that you effectively split your time between working on and working in your business.

According to Helio Fred Garcia, a contributor to the Forbes Coaches Council, this means you should split your time between working, marketing, and managing your business. Depending on the type of business you have, this might be a very challenging balance to strike. But if you’re able to do so, growing your business into the future can be a much easier task.

While it can be tempting to just work on the parts of your business that you like or find most fulfilling, it’s of the utmost importance that you devote time to each aspect of your business if you want to reach ultimate success.

Hire On The Right Help

Once your business gets to the point where you either need to or can hire on more help, bringing the right people on board is going to be an important next step.

As far as your own employees go, Mike Kappel, a contributor to Forbes.com, recommends that you hire the brightest people you can afford and that you vigorously onboard them so they can take on a lot of the responsibility of working in your business. By getting someone on your team that you can trust, delegation becomes much easier.

If you’re not looking to hire an employee yet, you can also outsource some of the work that you aren’t as familiar with or can’t get to.

Slowly Move Yourself Out Of The Day-To-Day

With people that you trust on your team, it’s time to start spending more of your time on big-picture work and less of your time on the day-to-day grind.

Even if this is the work you might enjoy the most, Anita Campbell, a contributor to Small Business Trends, shares that you as the owner or entrepreneur who started this business as the best person to bring the business into the future, so it’s important that you spend a big portion of your time now doing these types of tasks.

If you’re having a hard time balancing working in and working on your business, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you find ways to make this work at each stage in your business’s growth.

HI Erik, loved this one. I need to work on this more in 2020. I’ve hired a few folks as freelancers and would love to collabrate and or add some form of partners to grow it in 2020. Thanks for your tips here and have a great day and new week ahead!

Getting a little help, that is, paying a highly-skilled worker’s service is a great move. It sure does make me “spend more time on big-picture work”. I appreciate the post.
