Everything you say is true and your content is of value. Hence, people listen to what you say, and keep following you since the first time they know of your existence.

However, there are a couple of blogs that’s just doing nothing for me. They simply suck my time and I’ll never visit them again. Make sure your blog is not in that list.

A Very Bad Beginning

You write about the same old topic that I’ve read a millions of times and you’ve not even presented your own view points? Oh! Common, why would I read that?

Do you plan your titles properly? Often I land to your blog through BlogEngage, Blokube, BizSugar or similar blogging networks and all I see there is the title and a little of first paragraph.

I may land to your blog from Facebook, Scoopit.it or Pinterest and so on. What can I see there? Your post title and a short snippet. Did you optimize them enough to welcome me to your post?

Is your first paragraph able to convince me that reading the post is worth my time? Does it tell what the post is about and ensures that I’ll get what I was looking for?

Sometimes, I’m interested to see an impressive and relevant image. Did you care to create or choose the best images for your post?

No More Textbooks Anymore!

Ahh! I’ve already studied in schools and collages, a huge pile of text books. I’ve also studied lecture notes and presentations.

I’m too much with them. Already!

Any topic is related to many others and that does not mean you should write about everything. If you go wide apart, there will hardly be any depth.

Rank Tracker

Rank Tracker is software designed to monitor the positions reached by a site on the search engines for lists of defined keywords.

You can schedule scans to run automatically so that, for example, every day or every week, or one-off at the appointed time.

The program stores a history of all recorded positions, in order to make subsequent analysis.

The use of these basic functions is intuitive and of very fast execution (including all the ones I tried, it is by far the faster rank checking software), but with Rank Tracker you can do much more.

The software can also derive search volumes of the set of keywords monitored (by extracting the data from the AdWords – with manual insertion of the Captcha, or by a substantial list of other sources), so as to put in direct relation to the individual positions with the relative volumes of searches.

Of course, you can use the program to extract data from research with industry (for example, using site:, allintitle: and allintext: to estimate the competitiveness of keywords), or simply to know the number of the results of any research, but in any case, the data (and historical) are saved and can be exported for further processing.

For protection against ban during inspections, it is nice can set the program to simulate human behavior putting questions to the SERP, or (or in addition) to import proxy lists for the controls, and even use the same proxy in rotation.

SEO Spyglass

SEO SpyGlass is a tool designed to make analysis of link popularity, which allows you to examine in detail the backlinks to any website.

Specifying a URL, the software retrieves information about its backlinks from various services, including Yahoo Site Explorer, Google Blog Search, and several other engines.

After the compiled list of backlinks, the software can check for each URL a number of factors relating to the link, the page and domination.

In addition to checking the presence, the target URL and the anchor text of the link, you can get (for example) the title of each page and the total number of links it contains, check the PR and IP address of each site, the cache data of Google, and many other parameters.

Other than leaving that SEO SpyGlass recoveries the list of backlinks of a website, you can manually import lists of URLs to check.

You can easily import interesting data from your Google WebmasterTools, but take note the software can also analyze arbitrary lists of URLs.

This way you can for example analyze at once and make lists of domains, or obtain tables with basic data of all pages of a site (titles, pagerank, number of inbound links and outbound links, data cache, and so on).

SEO SpyGlass also keeps track of the changes in the historical (thus giving the ability to control the variations in link popularity of competitors) and offers the possibility to export the data to be able to manipulate or analyze separately.

The 2 Other Tools of SEO PowerSuite

For completeness, since they are part of SEO PowerSuite (the same family of Rank Tracker and SEO SpyGlass), I report the other two softwares that complement the collection:

- Website Auditor, which is software that evaluates the degree of on-page optimization;

- Link Assistant, a tool to manage link building campaigns, which mainly does 3 things:

1. maintains a database with all the information of the activated links and to be activated;
2. periodically checks the actual presence of links, pointing defections or changes;
3. it can directly contact each webmaster, with customizable email templates.

As for the other softwares included in SEO PowerSuite, the uses do not end here (the software can identify for themselves the potential link partners, for example), but for this time I leave the pleasure to the concerned users to further explore the many possibilities of Link Assistant.

Conclusion

Rank Tracker is undoubtedly the better rank checking software among all the ones I’ve tried so far (the list will include quite a few), and for me that is – alone – the price of the entire SEO PowerSuite. It is intuitive, reliable and extremely fast.

SEO SpyGlass is a real gem, it automates systematic analysis that I used to do with Yahoo Site Explorer, making them more accurate and much faster.

I’ve used a little, so far, Link Assistant, but I think I will be very helpful in the management of a link building campaigns.

Website Auditor allows you to check your own website details, but you can use it also to make a comparison with competition, which is good if you want to rank better.

Each software is constantly subjected to regular updates – an average of one every two weeks – for timely corrections whenever a search engine introduces a new change, or to improve the software with new features or new data sources.

The level of support and service is great: the staff is very helpful, responding quickly and always so helpful and courteous, seriously considering the suggestions for new features or enhancements to each software.

Personally I find these Suite very useful.

In summary, SEO PowerSuite is made ​​up of 4 different tools that can be purchased together or separately. The entire suite is compatible with Mac and Linux.

I point out the differences between the Free, Pro and Enterprise version :

- with the free version you can use the main features of the software, but you are unable to save projects (you have to reset everything all the time);

- with the Pro version you can save the project (and hence the historian) and schedule the execution of the task at regular intervals;

- the Enterprise version allows you to export data in TXT, CSV, XML and SQL, and automatically send reports to customers.

Open your post with the most important information. In other words you should use the journalistic method of the inverted pyramid.

In general, you should begin each paragraph of your content adding the key information. By doing so, your users will immediately find the news or the concepts they seek.

Remember that online readers do not like to waste time or dip into reasoning deductive logic that can be made mainly on the paper.

6. Write a Suitable Text to Be Read Online

Some pages have inserted such a welcome tab on their “like” buttons linking to other pages: in this way they require the user to have to click ”like” to show the contents of the tab. This practice goes against the rules of Facebook.

Facebook adopts different mechanisms to understand the origin of your fans : if they realize that few people have visited your page in comparison with users who clicked like, your page will be banned and your account warned.

Pages which have made tens of thousands of fans in a few days were readily blocked by Facebook … Do you want to be like them?

I do not think so!

Increasing the number of fans and like without any special tricks is possible, just follow these suggestions.

1. Suggest Your Page to Friends

The first thing to do after creating a new page is to share it and suggest it to your friends. It may seem an obvious tip, but I am sure many of you still have to invite all your connections to your Facebook page (like NPI Fan Page).

From the administration panel of the page (accessible to administrators clicking on the “Admin Panel” at the top right by visiting the page), click on the menu “Expand public” and choose “Invite your friends“.

This will allow you to select which friends to send a notification, asking them to become a fan of your page.

From that menu you can also share the page on your personal wall or on one of your friends. Of course be aware to not overdo, in order to not be labeled as spammer.

Also, before you want to advertise your page, make sure to have a solid fan base and content.

2. Create a Unique URL for Your Page

On both Facebook pages and profiles, you can get a unique username. This username identifies the page (or profile) of Facebook and offers a number of advantages.

For pages is very useful and important to get a customized URL, because it allows your fans to reach you remembering your URL and to communicate with the address of your page by any means (for example, for companies on a business card), but it is especially important because it attracts new users from Google.

Pages with a custom URL are best positioned on the search engines and thus attract new fans as well as common Google searches.

3. Publish Your Interesting Content

Whether your page is created as joke or as a company or as business page it is essential to always produce and publish interesting content, that will appeal to other people and worth to be shared.

Interesting content varies from page to page.

You will understand the taste of your fans over time, selecting which news to share and knowing what affects users and what not (TIP : use Facebook Page  Insights Tool).

4. Interact With Your Fans

Another important issue is to establish a relationship with your users.

You should then enable the message function and allow your fans to write to you and post photos, videos and links on your Facebook page wall.

Always respond to questions, requests, and clean up your page wall by people who post SPAM links or simply you do not like.

This will not take much of your time and you will be able to start interacting with your real fans.

5. Organize Games, Contest and Creates Discussions

A great way to increase the visibility of your Facebook page and get more “like” is to organize games, contests and open discussions on your status updates.

In this way it is likely to get more people clicking on your content and receive new fans.

Even a simple status update as “Click like if you think Facebook is great” can generate a great response from your fans.

6. Use Many Media

Photos and videos are the kind of content that receive more feedback and more shares from users.

You know that the more your content is shared, the greater your exposure and potential fans reached.

So be sure to create different albums, but pay attention to add original images and videos, do not copy from other Facebook pages.

7. Like Box Social Plugin

Social Plugins are a great way to increase the visibility of your page. If you have a website, you should add a Facebook like box to help new users to find and click like on your page.

You can also add a box for comments, which allows new visitors to comment on (and to publish your comment on Facebook) using their profile, or a box with the most read stories.

Each of these tools can bring new users to your page.

8. Invite Your Customers

If you created a page to promote your company on Facebook (business page), you can send it to a number of email addresses (for example, your customers) by clicking on the menu “Expand the public” and “Invite contacts from email“.

Each email address that you entered will receive an email, inviting the receiver to become a fan or like your page on Facebook.

9. Contact Admins of Groups and Pages on Your Same Topic

Whether your Facebook page is created for fun or to support a cause, it is useful to contact other administrators of pages and groups like yours, to let them know about your page and to share with them some of your interesting content.

If your content is worth to be shared on other pages, this will increase your fan and like audience.

Contacting administrators pages is now much easier thanks to the messages. If this feature is disabled write on the wall or comment on a post, asking for a contact with the administrator of the page.

Of course : do not ask directly on the page about your desire to advertise, even worse publishing directly your link, as you may be reported as SPAM !

10 . Ride the Trend of the Moment

Many pages in no time get an exponential advantage of Facebook trends.

For example, the current trend is to publish animated GIFs, images that are shared much more than static images and bring more users to your page.

Tricks like animated images usually last not so much on Facebook (the time that they discover the deception and they will remedy), but managing to ride this trend, will rise considerably the number of your Fans.

11 . Write articles about “How to get More Facebook Likes”

As you probably know, the founder and previous owner of No Passive Income is Chris Madej. He managed to make this blog popular in just 8 months and he was able to write a great number of high quality posts which ranked in the first page of Google for different keywords.

So the suggestion here is to create articles about “How to Get More Facebook Like” or about “Reach More Facebook Fans”, make it rank number one for those keywords and you will get constant and daily facebook likes on your page!

On No Passive Income Facebook page I receive a daily number of likes and fans, that vary from few up to 10-20, which is not that bad, considering it is organic traffic and natural visitors!

Another tip is of course to add more than once in your article, a link to your Facebook page. Links poiting from images from my experience work better.

In general, the most important “trick” (and on the web in general) is to produce interesting content.

This has led to some to even suggest that search engine optimization be called something different.

The simple fact is that SEO can actually be used ethically when done right.  Search engine optimization is simply a way of getting your content to the most people possible.

Search engines are the number one method of driving traffic to a site, so it makes sense to make the most of them.

People have given a bad name to SEO by using negative techniques (or Black-Hat SEO) that abuse search engine rules, such as; keyword stuffing, invisible text, doorway pages, etc.

They do this to try to boost their rankings quickly, but the joke is on them as these methods only tend to work for the very short term, if at all!

Thankfully, Google and others are cracking down on websites that abuse these rules, which is great for the rest of us that pride ourselves for following the rules.

Ethical search engine optimization is a term to describe all the good techniques and tips that you can use that are not in breach of search engine rules (or White-Hat SEO).

There is nothing wrong with optimizing your posts and pages to rank higher, as long as you do it right.

All search engines want to do is provide the best quality content to their users, as this is how they make money.  To do this, they need to look at sites (by crawling them) and establish what a post/page is about.

Optimizing your pages helps search engines to identify what your content is about, therefore enabling them to show it to the right people who are searching for it.

Ethical SEO Tactics

So now we know that ethical SEO is the right way to go, how do you go about optimizing your posts?

One of the key aspects of SEO is keyword placement.

Placing keywords and keyphrases in certain places of your site helps search engines to identify what your post is about. This is called ‘on-page SEO’ and can refer to things like;

• Page Titles
• Meta Descriptions
• Subtitles (H1, H2, H3 Tags)
• URL Address
• Image Alt Tags
• Internal & External Link Anchor Text (and the links themselves)

Whilst these are all good places to include your keywords/keyphrases, it is VITALLY important that you don’t overdo it.  Don’t place too many keywords in these places, as you risk keyword stuffing, which is bad!

A good rule of thumb is that keywords should not exceed about 3% of your overall article.  Think of your keywords as simple sign posts that help tell people what your post is about.

That way, you don’t need to go overboard with using them.

A great WordPress plugin that you can use to help you monitor your keyword density and other on-page SEO is the ‘WordPress SEO by Yoast’ plugin.

Now SEO is not all about keyword placement.  Search engines also look at things like post frequency, social media interaction, and PageRank.

But for the purpose of this post, this is what I will be focusing on.

It’s All About Being Relevant

Another good ethical rule to remember is that things should always be relevant to your content.  Whatever keywords, keyphrases, internal links, external links, videos, images, etc. that you include in your posts, they should be relevant to what you have just written.

For example, if I were to write an article about a certain actor, let’s say Matt Damon, then linking to reviews of movies that he has been in would be totally relevant, therefore justifiable.

If on the other hand I started including links to some car selling site, that wouldn’t be very relevant.

Search engines look at the terms, phrases and links that you use in a post to see if they are all connected in some way.

If they aren’t (as in the example that we just looked as) then they may suspect some dodgy behaviour going on on your site.

If you think about it logically though, you only want to be providing the best quality content to your visitors anyway, so why would you use/link to unrelated things.

Summary

Ethical search engine optimization isn’t too hard to get your head around.  Just remember to follow search engine guidelines and not abuse the system.

It can actually be more beneficial to concentrate solely on writing for your readers, as ultimately it is them that will determine whether your site is a success or not.

Plan out a long-term SEO strategy for your site and work at optimizing your site ethically.  It is much better to work with Google rather than against them!
